DOWNING PARK GREENHOUSE PROJECT ASSISTANT GARDENER


NCLB is seeking applicants for a part time seasonal position to assist in rebuilding the Downing Park Greenhouse area as a center for gardening, agriculture and education. Applicants must be residents of the City of Newburgh and be willing to accept numerous responsibilities and challenging tasks centered on developing urban agriculture in Newburgh. The candidate will report to the Downing Park Greenhouses located on Carpenter Street and Elm Street for each work day Basic gardener responsibilities and qualities include but are not limited to: good communication with co-workers, highly adaptable to changing conditions, creativity, willingness to learn, good listening skills, inquisitive, able to ask for help, able to self regulate behavior with social media. Must be able to perform repetitive tasks such as weeding, seeding, transplanting, watering in many weather conditions including hot or cold temperatures, light rain or direct sunlight with appropriate rests for hours at a time. Must be capable of long periods of physical work. Must be willing to safely and responsibly ride a loaded cargo bicycle in the City of Newburgh as needed. Must be able to work independently, under supervision and with volunteers. Experience with gardening is excellent but not required, familiarity with basic hand tools for construction and gardening is helpful. Interest in science, particularly life sciences, ecology or agriculture is a plus. DOWNING PARK GREENHOUSE PROJECT GARDEN & GREENHOUSE MANAGER


NCLB is seeking applicants for a full time position to oversee rebuilding the Downing Park Greenhouse area as a center for gardening, agriculture and education. Applicants must be residents of the City of Newburgh and be willing to accept numerous responsibilities and challenging tasks centered on developing urban agriculture in Newburgh. The candidate will report primarily to the Downing Park Greenhouses located on Carpenter Street and Elm Street for each workday. The successful candidate will have an advanced degree in horticulture or extensive demonstrable experience designing and managing aquaponic or hydroponic facilities as well as extensive knowledge about traditional agricultural methods. Ability to supervise two or more staff persons. The facilities will be used for educational programming, so the ability to run or facilitate programs with both children and adults is key. The ability to cooperate with the Downing Park Greenhouse Project Outreach Manager and partner organizations to design programs is essential. The successful applicant will foster a culture of mutual respect between the diverse members of the community in Newburgh. Salary commensurate with experience.


DOWNING PARK GREENHOUSE PROJECT OUTREACH MANAGER


NCLB is seeking applicants for a part time position to oversee community and organizational outreach as part of the effort to rebuild the Downing Park Greenhouse area as a center for gardening, agriculture and education. Applicants must be residents of the City of Newburgh and be willing to accept numerous responsibilities and challenging tasks centered on developing interest from organizations and individuals surrounding urban agriculture in Newburgh. The successful candidate will have extensive experience in outreach and community planning or programming, particularly related to agriculture and community development. The candidate will have experience making connections between organizations, developing program ideas, and enlisting appropriate partners. A BS or MS in planning, agriculture, or other related field is strongly preferred.
